The Northeast

Pine Barrens treefrogs and Blanding's turtles are some of the Northeast Region’s unique reptiles and amphibians. While the Northeast may not be the center of either reptile or amphibian diversity in the United States, it nevertheless faces a number of conservation challenges. Population pressure and habitat degradation have made the Northeast the frontline for amphibian and reptile conservation. The construction of new roads and highways has also led to a high incidence of road mortality for herp populations.
